Animation Submission Guide

Animation Submission Guide

This is a guide on how to create your animations for this years White Night. It is very important that you read this to avoid having your animation sent back or us not being able to play it on the night. There are two briefs for this project – one to create animations just for the windows of Marlborough House. And another brief to create animations that can span the entire front of Marlborough House including the windows & rendered facade. We have also been donated some models (high res & low res) of Marlborough House that you can download to help you with your 3D animations. Check out the Tech Specs & Things to Consider section below too.

Tech Specs

  • Animations must be 1592px (w) x 768px (h) – SQUARE PIXELS (do not set your animations up to have any 16:9 or 4:3 etc format)
  • 25 frames per second
  • Duration – 20 seconds – 40 seconds & can be looping (please let us know if it is meant to loop).
  • NO MUSIC! Sound effects are fine.
  • Animations to be delivered as a .mov Quicktime file – Sorreson/Sorreson 3/ H.264 compression at 100% quality. If the file size is small enough, you may be able to get away with Quicktime Animation compression at 100% for the maximum quality.
  • If possible, submit your animations with Alpha Channels. For the window animations – please ensure that the area around the windows you have animated are black on your Alpha Channel & the area where your windows are, are represented as solid white (opaque). For the facade animations – you will need to submit TWO films to us – one for the windows, and one for the building front.
  • Animations must not contain any offensive or copyrighted material & must be your own work. We will not be responsible for any dispute that arise from copyright issues – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct agreements in place to display your animation.
  • DEADLINE – EXTENDED!!! 5pm Friday 15th October
  • Email us at info@bangdreammachine.com & we’ll invite you to upload your animation the DropBox folder

Things to consider

This year we are using two projectors to project your animations on to Marlborough House. Because we are using two projectors – there will obviously be a point where one projector stops & the other projector takes over the image. This join between the projector images will be down the right hand side of the middle section (see diagram). Because there may be a slight join line between the two projector images, it is important to be aware that any static images along this line may be very slightly skewed. Animated images over this join should not show.

Brightly coloured and lighter animations tend to work best projected onto buildings. Dark, moody scenes may not be easy to see on the night – especially if there is a degree of light pollution in the area from cars, buses, streetlights etc.

You may add sound effects to your animation. But please do not include music as we are currently in the process of commissioning music to be played over all of the animations.

If you are animating onto the facade, please be aware that the front door of the building is a dark colour & your animation will not be seen clearly in this area.
